We are seeking a Director for Alexandria LaunchLabs @ Columbia University in New York City. The Director will work closely with the regional LaunchLabs NYC site head and serve as a point of contact for all Alexandria LaunchLabs @ Columbia member companies and external groups. This individual should have experience working with early-stage companies and be comfortable interfacing with various parts of the New York City life science ecosystem to promote the brand and mission of Alexandria LaunchLabs. Below is a description of necessary competencies and expected roles and responsibilities.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Source and evaluate potential new member companies from across the Columbia and Greater New York City entrepreneurial life science communities
  • Establish strong relationships across the Columbia and Greater New York City life science communities
  • Oversee general operations of the Alexandria LaunchLabs site @ Columbia (e.g., including lab operations, community, strategic programming)
  • Track and maintain operating budgets and related financial reports
  • Track LaunchLabs member company progress and report on scientific, preclinical and financing milestones
  • Take a lead role on identifying and recruiting various company-building resources to support LaunchLabs member growth
  • Work closely with the regional Alexandria team on all aspects of the business (e.g., license/lease administration, accounting, lab management, day-to-day operations, etc.)
  • Attend community events to promote the LaunchLabs brand, member companies and recruit new potential members

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field required; Masters, MD or PhD, preferred
  • Prior experience building, advising, and/or investing in life science start-up companies 
  • At least 3 years of prior experience in a management role
  • Prior experience operating a co-working environment is a plus
  • Strong connections to the New York City life science ecosystem preferred (universities, venture community, companies, etc.)
  • Ability to multi-task and communicate effectively through strong written communication and presentations to various audiences
  • Highly organized and diligent about documentation
  • Must be able to communicate with co-workers, management, and others in a courteous and professional manner.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Minimal travel required.
