Job Purpose:  You’re a detail oriented collaborator who manages preparation of financial statements for Animal Humane Society. You contribute to a culture of improvement and a culture of why.

What you will be doing:

Reporting – Complete AHS financial statements through preliminary results. Prepare balance sheet reconciliations, understand and interpret results recommending adjusting entries where needed. Generate the sales tax report. Prepare work papers for financial results and audits.

Process – Compile and analyze financial information to prepare journal entries. Maintain current documented procedures for general ledger, accounts payable, and payroll activities. Maintain fixed asset records.

Communication – Listen, pay attention and be a responsible steward of information. Communicate information in a clear, complete and timely manner.

Support – Promote cross training and development of the accounting team. Assist with preparation for external audits. Maintain current knowledge and ability to perform payroll and act as a back-up for payroll and accounts payable responsibilities.

Maintain a safe work environment by following AHS protocols and policies. Work with AHS volunteers in a positive and effective way to advance the mission of AHS and facilitate meaningful volunteer engagement.

What we are looking for:

Experience – Minimum of three years of business accounting experience. Exposure to payroll preferred. Experience working in a non-profit is a plus.

Adaptability – Ability to work in a professional and positive manner, balancing shifting priorities in a variety of situations.

Communication – Excellent interpersonal and communications skills, must have ability to partner collaboratively with external and internal contacts and departments.

Computer Skills – Highly proficient in Microsoft office.

Emotional Capabilities – Must be able to handle the emotional aspect of work in an animal shelter environment, including the use of euthanasia. Must have a high level of resiliency.

Schedule – Availability to work during operational hours with the expectation to work varied hours including evening and weekend shifts.
