We are seeking an experienced Senior Software Quality Engineer to join our Information Technology team. This is a full-time opportunity working at our office in downtown Portland, Oregon. 



The Senior Software Quality Engineer role is responsible for performing the software quality assurance function at AllMed. The software quality assurance process involves evaluating and testing new or modified software programs to verify that the software functions according to stakeholder and business requirements and conforms to established quality guidelines.



  • Writes, revises and verifies quality standards and test procedures to attain quality of software economically and efficiently
  • Reviews new or modified software, including specifications, to determine if software will perform according to requirements and conform to quality guidelines
  • Recommends software improvements and corrections to software engineers
  • Reviews computer operating logs to identify software processing errors
  • Run software programs to test for validity of results, accuracy, reliability, and conformance to requirements and quality guidelines
  • Sets up tests at request of users and programmers to troubleshoot program operating errors
  • Conducts compatibility testing to ensure software is compatible with various operating environments and other software/hardware components as stipulated in the requirements
  • Writes documents that describe software evaluation, testing, and correction
  • Writes scripts to automate testing where practical
  • Writes and manages defect reports
  • Works with requirements tracking and defect reporting systems
  • Reports quality assurance status to project managers and stakeholders as required
  • Develops or recommends tools to test, track and verify defects in software programs



The position is frequently varied and involves solving problems of high complexity.  A strong technical proficiency in testing methodologies and quality assurance is required.  The incumbent exercises judgment within generally defined engineering practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining results. The incumbent works directly with software engineers, other software QA engineers, project managers, clients, operations managers, executives and end users. The incumbent may supervise and/or direct the efforts of other testers. Job skills required include:

  • Proficiency in current software QA technologies
  • Experience testing on the Microsoft Windows platform
  • Software scripting ability for test automation
  • Ability to perform basic SQL queries for the purposes of data validation
  • Experience testing web applications, desktop applications, software API’s and databases
  • Ability to isolate and describe complex software failures
  • Ability to write and execute test plans and strategies
  • Ability to clearly communicate QA status



  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, engineering, science field or equivalent experience
  • Five years of relevant experience in engineering, QA, or testing in high technology
  • Experience and knowledge of multiple development processes and in leading the software QA effort for projects throughout a software development lifecycle are required
