ST. CATHARINES

 

 

WSP is currently looking for Construction Inspectors with experience in vertical Infrastructures for public sector and private sector clients. We are looking to expand our Infrastructure team in our St. Catharines location. This is primarily a field position with projects in the Niagara Region Area.  Reporting to the Manager, Contract Administration this position will be responsible for managing the site inspection multi-million-dollar water/wastewater and other infrastructure construction projects, such as Sewage Pumping Stations, Potable Water Pumping Stations, reservoirs or elevated tanks.

Your primary focus will be the site inspection and support the contract administration of municipal water and wastewater infrastructure projects with electromechanical installation and commissioning. This is a 1 year contract.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work in field offices, calculating quantities, help preparing monthly payments, finalization of contract items and perform general office work;
  • Perform and/or inspect quality assurance (QA) acceptance on full water and wastewater facilities, including watermains, sanitary sewers, structural, electrical, mechanical;
  • Ensure that the infrastructure complies to the contract documents and drawings and maintain a record of field deviations for the completion of record drawings;
  • Maintain detailed daily diaries of contractor’s work, contract progress and inspection milestones;
  • Ensure inspection tasks are completed and recorded in a prompt and accurate manner;
  • Recognize when extra work needs to be done and report to the Contract Administrator;
  • Identification, documentation and assessment for rating of deficiencies (deviations from Contractor’s Quality Control Process and OPSS/client standards) in the contractor’s work;
  • Ensure approved construction materials are used and acquired from approved sources and a record is kept of such materials;
  • Ensure contractor adheres to all contract requirements, as per Contract Administrator’s direction; e.g. legal, environmental, construction standards, protection of wildlife, etc.;
  • Ensure contractor applies the Occupational Health and Safety Act, WHIMIS, Environmental Act, Transportation of Dangerous Goods and Waste Management regulations in a manner consistent with the contract.
  • Be a company representative and act on behalf of the company;
  • Travel and work on contracts throughout Ontario for lengthy periods at a time;
  • Other duties as assigned.
 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Civil Engineering Diploma from an accredited college;
  • 5-10 years of experience in a similar role;
  • Experience utilizing relevant Computer software e.g. CDS, HDS/InRoads, MS Word, Excel and Access to calculate payment and test results;
  • Previous experience in AutoCAD and Microstation is an asset
  • Experience using construction administration information systems is an asset
  • Experience in City of Toronto projects and surrounding Regional Municipalities is an asset
  • Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing;
  • Ability to organize, prioritize and schedule inspection work;
  • Valid Ontario driver’s license with an acceptable driving record.
