At WSP our Geotechnical team is well on its way to achieving the strategic directive of becoming one of the country’s leading integrated geotechnical team of experts. As such, we have an opportunity to add an Associate Director to lead our business and further develop our team of geotechnical experts across the GTA. Reporting to the Regional Director you will be responsible for the financial and people performance of over 100+ staff with revenues over $14+ million CAD.
You will play a critical role in delivering on our WSP Canada strategic and operational plan, and as such requires significant demonstrable experience optimizing strategic services, value-add project delivery, enabling the growth of the business and ensuring client satisfaction above all else.
Based in our brand new Toronto office you will travel to Markham and across the GTA regularly to interact with teams in person. A day in the life:
Relying on your experience, you will provide leadership and operational expertise through clear communication of the vision, strategy, operating plan, budgets and targets. Working with your team leaders, you’ll engage all employees in achieving the regional objectives, and ensure our people understand what key performance indicators contribute to our success as a whole;
You will own the management of a large, robust team and support the Regional Director in optimizing the performance of the discipline’s people & operations including employee and project performance, operating margin, productivity and DSO;
Leveraging your demonstrated expertise in strategic growth and implementation, you will cascade regional and staff objectives, as well as the creation and implementation of local action plans in support of achieving goals related to optimizing financial performance, quality, safety, culture and engagement;
You’ll be fostering productive relationships with leaders in other regions to leverage collaboration, idea sharing, and resource distribution to optimize efficiency and provide opportunities to staff;
You will guide and direct project managers on measures to mitigate project performance issues and risks, ensuring successful delivery on the contractual commitments and financial targets for the project portfolio in order to meet client expectations and achieve or exceed profitability targets for the business unit;
You’ll maintain and nurture key client relationships, seek to understand evolving client needs, local industry trends and upcoming opportunities in the Region to anticipate and plan for maximizing growth opportunities;
You will act as a change leader, taking responsibility to understand the various national programs and practices which are being rolled out and providing support and training to staff to implement these locally;
As part of effective talent planning, you’ll understand the short and long-term workforce requirements for Ontario, including identifying future skill sets aligned with the strategic vision, conducting a gap analysis, and proactively building a deep talent pool;

An undergraduate in Engineering, Geoscience or other related technical discipline, with a Master’s degree in a related field, or MBA
Senior level (10+) years of consulting expertise where you’ve previously managed or led operational teams in a matrix structure;
Solid understanding of the local geotechnical markets; including relationships with clients and potential business partners;
Established advanced people and leadership skills to effectively lead diverse teams and nurture relationships across a matrix structure to achieve consensus, provide direction and drive achievement of results;
A history of delivering quality financial performance and results and a proven track record demonstrating good judgement, balanced with informed risk-taking;
You'll have established yourself as a thought leader and brand ambassador, and positioned yourself within the market segment as an expert;
The confidence to influence a high-caliber team, to drive a business to reach higher performance targets and seize opportunities presented internally.
