At WSP, our Operations Finance team is partnering daily with our project managers and operations leaders to deliver value through finance business partnership and advisory financial analysis. We have a current opening for an intermediate Project Accountant to join the team and enhance their skills as a financial partner to operations. As a Project Accountant at WSP, you'll be supporting projects in our Transportation business line. You'll be a key part of the team, and you'll provide support to project managers on a portfolio of projects throughout their lifecycle, providing knowledge and understanding of contracts and agreements, and ensuring that all project accounting activities (set up, cost recording, revenue recognition, forecasting and closure) are accurately completed with a focus on quality work.

A day in the life:
You'll oversee a portfolio of transportation related projects and partner with project managers as a finance business partner, including leading the financial review to ensure compliance with accounting standards and corporate policies;
As the financial expert on the team, you'll provide expertise to PM’s through the financial lifecycle of a project, from setup, monitoring, updating and closure including:
Ensure project set-up accurately mirrors the as-sold price, cost and margin of the contract, and that addendums/change orders and PO’s support the contract value loaded in the system;
Challenge WBS Structure at creation towards optimizing project structures and minimizing complexity for efficient delivery and execution throughout the life of the project;
Open, create and maintain projects WBS structure, revenue and cost budgets and ensure timely recording of all cost and revenue transactions;
Assist PM’s in the PSR and management project review process, including the validation of ETCs and EACs, and ensure any financial issues related to earnings, cash-flow, and reporting are addressed and attend meetings with Project Delivery Team on the financial status of projects;
Perform Time and Expense Transfers as needed, when not related to Billings, transact project write-ups and write-downs, perform and support project related internal control procedures and perform project closeout processes;
You'll train and educate project delivery team on the use of financial project analysis tools, dashboards, Vision, etc. and educate on WSP's revenue and costing methodologies;
You'll understand commercial, billing and payment terms on the project and act as a liaison with the Billing team to enhance the process;
You'll perform Rate Table/Labour Codes Validation,assist Controllers during month end close and internal audits, prepare and analyze variances pertaining to cost and revenue.
We'd love to hear from you if you have...
Post-secondary education in finance or accounting, and working towards or hold an accounting designation (CMA, etc.);
Some experience in a similar role as a financial analyst or project accountant within a similar industry (engineering, construction, etc.);
An interest in joining a growing, dynamic company with a clear mission and bright outlook - you're passionate about developing and growing your career as a finance business partner working on projects that matter;
