WSP is currently looking for a Regional Commercial and Risk Lead to join our Transportation Business Line to be based in any major WSP Canadian Office. Reporting to the National Commercial and Risk Manager, this role is responsible for developing, applying and maintaining commercial and risk management processes and systems in the assigned region. The Regional Commercial and Risk Lead is responsible for providing expertise, support and oversight to ensure project contract development and management is effective and project and portfolio risks are mitigated.



  • Support the Proposal Manager in all commercial matters during project pursue phases (EOI, SOQ and Bid evaluation) providing expert advice and guidance on risk and financial matters;

  • Provide support for the Contract Developing Working group (Business Development, Legal & Risk and iPMO), reviewing and suggesting contract articles, sections or schedules as required;

  • Liaising with Business Development and Legal & Risk Teams as well as market Sector Leadership teams to prepare for submissions on Go-No Go processes, Fee Review and Risk Committee presentations;

  • Provide advice regarding WSP’s Prime Contract management and escalate issues to the appropriate level as required;

  • Provide support to Project Manager and Project Control Team with claims management and all commercial matters related to partners and subconsultants throughout project delivery;

  • Facilitate workshops and interviews with project staff for risk identification, assessment, prioritization and development/reviews of risk management response strategies and control of risks;

  • Establish, review and maintain project risk registers to identify and quantify risks and their potential impact;

  • Develop and run risk profiles at pursuit, project and program levels and establish levels of confidence for specific outcomes;

  • Compile, analyze and report on risk and commercial data in support of decision making;

  • Integrate Commercial & Risk processes with other iPMO pillars seeking synergies and optimization;

  • Conduct training and education sessions for Project teams and stakeholders;

  • Coach and mentor other team members in the commercial and risk discipline;

  • Foster a continuous improvement culture leading the effort on the Commercial & Risk pillar;

  • Other duties as assigned/required.


  • MBA (preferred), a relevant University degree in an Engineering related discipline, plus 10+ years of experience in commercial and risk management function in project management, construction or engineering environment;

  • Experience in a similar role on Transportation Infrastructure or working on projects with CAPEX over $1 billion;

  • Strong experience and understanding of the AFP/P3 procurement process;

  • Strong experience working in multi-disciplinary teams, with specific experience negotiating, mediating issues and facilitating discussions with key stakeholders to achieve consensus;

  • Sound knowledge of commercial terms and conditions and project risk management principles, methods and processes;

  • Comprehensive knowledge and experience with risk management frameworks and standards (preferably ISO 31000);

  • Extensive experience facilitating risk workshops including assessment, management, oversight and report on project risks and proficiency with Sherman Kent scale applications;

  • Experience developing financial models and application of Monte Carlo risk simulations at project and program levels;

  • Good understanding of scheduling and estimating processes is an asset;

  • Fluently bilingual (French and English) would be an asset;

  • Excellent computer skills (MS Office and macro programming, knowledge of risk software would be an asset (i.e: ARM, Predict!, PRA, Acumen, @risk).
