Overview of the opportunity:


WSP is currently seeking a Senior Project Manager to join our Projects Department, located at our Calgary office.  Reporting to the Director, Projects this position will be responsible for overseeing one large or multiple smaller projects in terms of deliverables as agreed to with client. Included within the responsibilities are man-power requirements, schedule/milestones, budget adherence and proactive project/client management.

What you can expect to do here:

  • You will make recommendations and be involved with important decision making on highly technical and complex aspects of WSP projects. Able to put together rough concepts for execution by others;
  • Supervise the completion of feasibility studies and technical report writing;
  • Define, Develop and Document multiple dependent or independent Project Budgets & Schedules, approve changes to baseline / estimates and new forecasted dates;
  • You’ll be assessing project resources’ capability to accomplish current and future assigned work and initiate actions as required to meet commitments;
  • Mentoring and instructing of team members on design requirements, schedules, cost estimates, etc. as required on projects;
  • Responsible for defining scope, and creating WBS, verifying scope with client and following procedures to monitor and control changes on project;
  • Project management responsibilities include a solid understanding of:
    • Reporting and Scheduling
    • Procurement
    • Construction Support
    • Revenue Forecasting
    • Budget Management
    • Staff Planning and Project Organization Designs
  • Responsible for reviewing and stamping drawings (as required); using experience in interpreting design codes and regulatory requirements;
  • Proactively manage deadlines and ensure appropriate communication is provided (to relevant parties) when schedule and cost conflicts arise;
  • Develop and ensure adherence to company engineering policies, procedures and systems for the engineering group;
  • Accountable for establishing basic design criteria for the project with the client; ensure compliance of PEP with established Business Line procedures;
  • Reviewing design, engineering and procurement schedules to ensure compliance with project schedule, estimate and procurement plan;
  • Expected to work with all levels of the organization in a cohesive manner;
  • Manage to agreed scope and utilize project change management when there is a deviation from the agreed scope;
  • Act as conduit between the WSP organization and client. Foster a relationship with the client that ensures both companies success; and
  • Development of Project staffing and de-staffing plans. Approval of key project personnel.


What you'll bring to WSP

  • An engineering degree in a related discipline or technical diploma from post-secondary institution;
  • A P.Eng. or P.Tech. designation;
  • You’ll ideally have completed formal training in project management, PMP certification preferred;
  • You will have 4-8 years of previous experience in an EPCM environment in the domestic oil and gas industry is an asset;
  • 10-15+ years’ experience in a Project Management or equivalent role; and
  • You’ll be highly proficient in MS Office including training with vendor and database software.
