WSP is currently seeking a Structural Designer to join our Sudbury Industrial Group, located at our Sudbury Ontario office.  Reporting to the Industrial Team Lead, this position will be responsible to provide design, drafting and modelling capabilities to the growing Sudbury Industrial team.  WSP is committed to supporting the growth of the Sudbury Industrial / Mining office and establishing a sustainable long-term presence to better support Clients in Northeastern Ontario.  The Sudbury Industrial team works closely with other WSP Industrial offices to build the best team to meet clients project needs.

You will apply your modelling and design knowledge on project work from conceptual design through completion producing models and drawings for planning and construction. Technical quality, visualization, cost effectiveness, and maintaining client relationships, are integral parts of this role.


What you can expect:

  • Safety Focus including consideration of safety in design, construction and operations;
  • Complete structural conceptual designs and construction drawings for buildings and structures in an industrial and institutional setting using AutoCAD and Revit (Microstation proficiency is an asset). Drawings to include general arrangements, foundations, structures in steel, masonry, timber and concrete;
  • Ability to work with a minimum of instructions and complete tasks independently;
  • Collaborating with and providing input to others in the design team;
  • Complete conceptual plans and present them to team members;
  • Coordination with other disciplines required for project implementation;
  • Field reviews / site inspections for design verification / implementation;
  • Must be able to attend industrial sites attend project meetings, conduct field reviews and observe all applicable safety regulations.

What you'll bring to WSP:

  • Have a College diploma from an accredited college in civil or architectural discipline;
  • Be fluent in the English language with verbal and written communication skills with working knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programs;
  • Proficiency in 3D modeling using Revit /Structure and Autocad is required;
  • A Certified (or eligible for) Engineering Technologist in Ontario is beneficial;
  • Intermediate level of relevant experience;
  • Working knowledge of Ontario and National Building Codes, and relevant standards;
  • Project experience in mills, smelters, mines, industrial sites, infrastructure, refinery, ports, material handling, pulp and paper is beneficial;
  • Must possess a team player attitude and be able to work in project team environment;
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
