What we're looking for:

Immersion is seeking a talented and experienced Senior Legal Counsel to join our fast-paced business environment as we expand our patent and software licensing businesses around the world.  The Senior Legal Counsel will report to the Deputy General Counsel and VP, Legal Affairs.

This position is primarily responsible for supporting Immersion’s OEM patent and software licensing business, with a focus on patent licensing matters and hybrid patent/software licensing matters.  As part of this role, you will be the lead attorney in drafting and negotiating Immersion’s outbound patent and software license agreements to haptically-enable OEMs of various devices, including mobile phones, wearables, gaming/VR/AR devices, automotive interfaces, among others.  This Senior Legal Counsel will work closely with our IP licensing sales team, OEM software licensing team, marketing team and other teams collaboratively in order to engineer licensing structures with Immersion’s customers. 

The position also involves drafting and negotiating a broad range of other transactional matters, including software/patent/know-how licenses, development agreements, professional services agreements, non-disclosure agreements, etc.


What you’ll do:

  • Drafting and negotiating patent license agreement, software license agreements, combination patent/software license agreements, and other agreements relating to our OEM licensing business
  • Working collaboratively with our IP licensing sales team, OEM software licensing team, marketing team and other teams collaboratively in order to engineer licensing structures with Immersion’s customers
  • Advising internal clients, including members of executive staff, on contractual rights and obligations, using excellent interpersonal/communication skills
  • Providing interpretation of contractual terms and clear, actionable guidance on legal and business risks as well as providing creative solutions to arising issues
  • Maintaining and revising template agreements as required
  • Traveling internationally occasionally to support business transactions
  • Conducting various legal projects and other duties as assigned


Candidate Expectations:

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Admission to the California bar is required
  • At least 4-7 years of combined legal experience working as a patent licensing attorney and software licensing attorney in dynamic technology companies or at a law firm serving such companies
  • Experience in patent litigation (particularly with respect to mobile devices) would be highly valued and preferred
  • This opening requires an individual with an excellent ability to analyze and evaluate legal and business issues as they arise
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  •  Strong interpersonal skills that facilitate consensus-building among multiple business teams
  • Candidates must possess a deep knowledge of: patent licensing ( with patent litigation strongly preferred), software licensing, contract laws, and intellectual property licensing generally.
  • Candidates must be hard working, well organized and able to manage numerous projects simultaneously under demanding deadline pressure
