Olin Chlor Alkali Products and Vinyls, a division of Olin Corporation, is seeking Alternating Term Co-Ops (ATC) for Chemical Engineering students, located at the Freeport, Texas manufacturing site.  Additional US locations may include Charleston, Tennessee; McIntosh, Alabama; Niagara Falls, New York; Plaquemine, Louisiana; and the St. Gabriel, Louisiana manufacturing sites.  

In this role, you are expected to work safely and to learn to complete your assignments independently.  Applicants must also be able to relate and communicate professionally with co-workers at various levels and show ability to change priorities and handle multiple tasks. Teamwork and cooperation, as well as independent initiative are critical.  Our Alternating Term Co-op (ATC) opportunities in Manufacturing Engineering include a broad range of responsibilities in a variety of different work settings.

The ATC program is aimed at students who have completed their sophomore year of college or beyond.  Students in the ATC program are encouraged to work at different Olin Plants and try different roles as they progress from one assignment to the next.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Work with maintenance and production to develop and implement new or improved chemical manufacturing processes
  • Assist with troubleshooting, gathering and analyzing data 
  • Analyze, develop and recommend design changes to meet production requirements
  • Justify, specify, obtain approval, order and install processes and equipment
  • Update P&IDs of plant processes with manufacturing equipment
  • Support plant and Operational and Maintenance Excellence goals, including continuous improvement / Lean manufacturing initiatives
  • Serve as engineering representative on small capital projects
  • Work with equipment suppliers and other vendors and contractors to ensure project goals are met
  • Participate in plant shutdowns/outages
  • Maintain effective communication and coordination with area supervisors, production operators and maintenance technicians
  • Participate in and/or lead Process Hazard Analysis (PHAs)
  • Assist in developing policies, procedures and standards, including preventative maintenance
  • Participate in safety meetings, training activities and following established safety procedures and practices

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Must have an overall grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (Documentation required).  Cumulative GPA on current institution transcript will be used in transfer college situations
  • Must have completed sophomore year prior to first assignment with Olin
  • Enrolled at an accredited college or university majoring in an undergraduate Chemical Engineering degree program.  Preference given to students located within 60 miles of the Freeport, TX; St. Gabriel, LA; Plaquemine, LA; McIntosh, AL and Charleston, TN sites
  • Ability to work full time (40 hours a week) either January – May 2020 or August – December 2020
  • Preference will be given to candidates with availability to work a minimum of three (3) terms with no more than one of those terms occurring over the summer
  • Preference given to students not requiring housing assistance
  • Ability to interface with all levels of the organization
  • High awareness to detail, strong decision-making ability and creative problem-solving skills
  • Provide your own transportation to and from work location
