Job Summary

To perform Apheresis collection of blood cells for the purpose of clinical research for 5 hours a week minimum/10 hours maximum as needed. You will maintain patient care during the procedure, prepare collection materials for shipment/transport, and maintain apheresis related supplies and materials inventory, and clean and disinfect equipment. You will aid in the development of protocols and standard operating procedures related to apheresis collection. You will also partner with research specialist staff on specific projects to ensure scheduling and patient needs are made.

Primary Essential Duties

•Placement and management of IV

•Carefully completes lab requisition forms and tracks specimens

•Takes vital signs

•Conducts detailed medical history interviews

•Explains study procedures and obtain informed consent

•May administer IV medications

•Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience Required

• High school diploma required

• Apheresis Technician certification required

• Minimum of 2 years of demonstrated experience performing apheresis collection required.

• Basic Life Saving (BLS) certification is required

• Demonstrated experience working or volunteering in a research or health care setting preferred.

• Familiarity with terminology related to HIV/AIDS, STDs, Hepatitis and LGBT health

Working Conditions:

Working conditions for this position are normal for an office environment. Individual may be required to work evenings and / or weekends and organization events.

Physical Demands:

 Lifting: No more than 20 lbs. and infrequently.

 Movement: Standing and sitting for long periods.

 Visual: Long periods on computer.

 Concentration: Extended periods of engagement with computer systems where concentration is key to accuracy in data entry. Intermittent periods of engagement with a telephone system to respond to inquiries where concentration is key to task performance.

 Communication: Direct and indirect communication. Written and verbal competency.
