About FirstLine Schools

In 1998, FirstLine Schools started the first charter school in New Orleans. In 2019-20, FirstLine will operate five PreK-8th grade schools, serving ~3,500 students.  Our mission is to create and inspire great open admissions public schools in New Orleans. 


Position Summary:

The Flag Football Commissioner is the liaison between FirstLine Schools and the coaching staffs. The Commissioner must be aware of and communicate the needs, requests, and information needed to all parties. The Flag Football Commissioner must know all rules and procedures pertaining to coaches and players and relays and enforces them.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Team formation within the league

  • Collect and maintain team rosters in the league

  • Conduct pre-season coach’s meeting(s) and establish a finalized schedule

  • Build league schedules and distribute schedules in an organized and timely manner

  • Determine Sportsmanship winners for the end of season banquet, along with other potential awards

  • Monitor games in progress

  • Schedule makeup games 

  • Tabulate game results and maintain standings 

  • Maintain equipment assigned to the league (flags, bins, keys, footballs, etc.) if needed

  • Recommend disciplinary action against coaches, players or parents if needed

  • Assign referees scorekeepers for each game, according to FirstLine Schools policy

  • Work with the Referrees and keep them informed of schedule changes and canceled games

  • Coordinate with the FirstLine finance department to issue payments for referees, security, and scorekeeping.

  • Initiate updates to the Flag Football Rules and applicable sections of the Procedures Manual, in the interest of safety/supervision or missing policy. 

  • Other duties as assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Experience in coaching middle school sports

  • Employed by a charter school within the league



The stipend for this position is $3,500 for the Flag Football Season (Planning: August, Season: September through November of 2019-20.)
