Job Title: Intern, Assay Development

Job Summary:

The Intern will support early access customers to run assays using new platforms under development at Complete Genomics. Specific duties will include preparing cells, running assays with the new platform, analyzing data and supporting other engineering projects.

Complete Genomics/BGI is a leader in accurate whole human genomic sequencing based in San Jose, California. Using its proprietary sequencing instruments, chemistry, and software, the company has sequenced more than 20,000 whole human genomes. The company’s mission is to improve human health by providing researchers and clinicians with the core technology and commercial systems to understand, prevent, diagnose, and treat diseases and conditions. The company spans multiple specialties: genomics, biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, software, hardware engineering, semiconductors, operations, research and development, and others.

                                                             

Major Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist scientists to mix buffers, manage cell samples and run sample prep assay.

  • Execute experiments and collect data on experimental runs.

  • Maintain notebooks in a manner that complies with company policy for recording of experimental data.

  • Together with engineers and scientists, trouble shoot problems, applying cell biology and biochemistry knowledge.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Molecular Biology, Biochemsitry or related field with 1-2 years of hands on lab experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of related education and experience.

  • Undergraduate research experience with cell culturing and cell handling.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Industrial internship experience is preferred.

  • Experience processing DNA/RNA samples is preferred.
