Northshore Mining Company, a subsidiary of Cleveland-Cliffs, Inc, is a taconite mining and processing facility located in Northern Minnesota.  The mining facility is located in Babbitt, MN, and the processing plant is located in Silver Bay, MN, on the Northshore of Lake Superior.



The primary function of this position will be to maintain and repair the Centralized Traffic Control System that controls all Railroad movement; maintain the power line between Silver Bay and Babbitt; and maintain and troubleshoot the Railroad radio system.


This position is scheduled to work Monday through Friday but will also be required to work at other times to meet maintenance schedules and operating needs.



  • Repair and maintenance of Railroad electrical/instrumentation equipment.

  • Ensure safety hazards are repaired.

  • Maintain the integrity of the Railroad signal system & power distribution.

  • Use computerized maintenance management system for work order record keeping and inventory withdrawal.



  • Two- year electrical degree and a minimum of 5 years experience in an industrial electrical environment is required.

  • Railroad Signal/Centralized Traffic Control System experience is preferred.

  • This position is a department of one.This person is required to work overtime when needed and respond to unusual circumstances and department needs on off-shifts.

  • Applicants must have achieved a satisfactory score on the NSM Electrical/Instrumentation Assessment.

  • Instrumentation knowledge is preferred.

  • Must be able to read schematics, blueprints and loop diagrams.

  • Must be a highly motivated, self-starter that is committed to the position and unique work demands.

  • Must be able to handle multiple work tasks simultaneously and prioritize work load.

  • Required to work outdoors, usually working alone and unsupervised.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Excellent attendance record.

  • Excellent safety record.

  • Must be able to learn, understand, apply and operate under the NSM Railroad Operating Rules and Special Instructions.

  • Must meet hearing and vision requirements (specific to determining colors).
