Construction/Civil Technologist – Omaha, NE

Our Omaha, NE office is looking to hire a full-time, seasonal, or part-time Construction & Design Technologist (Entry to Mid-level). The ideal candidate will have a strong interest in assisting with both field engineering, surveying, and roadway and highway design. Projects will primarily be in the Omaha-Council Bluffs metro area or surrounding areas in eastern Nebraska and western Iowa.

The Impact You Will Have:

  • Perform field construction observation and prepare Inspector’s Daily Reports and other project documentation as required by the project procedures and as directed by the project leader
  • Assist in the design of projects and preparation of project plan sets
  • Perform measurements of construction work performed and quantity calculations of pay items
  • Perform surveying and construction materials testing duties as assigned
  • Collect and assimilate data
  • Perform drafting of project elements and design details
  • Compute quantities and demonstrate awareness of relationships to pay items
  • Prepare mathematical calculations of others and organize calculations to be included in the design file, following project standards and as assigned
  • Assist with preparing task deliverables in a complete and reviewable manner
  • Perform tasks on schedule and within budget as assigned
  • Work independently under the guidance of an Engineer

What You Will Need:​

  • AAS in Drafting, Surveying, Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology or a related discipline a plus
  • Related construction/civil transportation experience desired, City of Omaha or Nebraska DOT experience is a plus; entry-level candidates will be considered; on-the-job training will be provided
  • Ability to obtain various construction inspection & testing certifications
  • Demonstrated knowledge of appropriate software
  • Demonstrated knowledge of applicable codes & standards
  • Experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley MicroStation is a plus
  • Experience with construction inspection software or Mobile Inspector is a plus
  • Experience with total station and GPS surveying and construction staking is a plus
  • Competent use of Microsoft Office products
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written - e-mails, project memos, reports, etc.)
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to work effectively independently and within a team environment
  • Ability to work outside on foot for extended periods
  • Ability to carry up to 50 lbs. a distance of 50-feet or greater over relatively level ground
  • Ability to work in roadway construction work zones or other hazardous environments while wearing personal protective equipment
